November 28, 2009, the "Local folks Beijing Summit for brand partners" was held in Beijing, as GVB took part in the opening ceremony of a new Chinese fair trade alliance. The meeting was chaired by Local Folks Beijing Organic Food Co., Ltd., and nearly 200 people attended the meeting.

Other co-sponsors in attendance include Beijing Caiwo Trading Limited (Chinese website), China Marketing, Bazaar Gift, Friends of Nature (China), and Beijing Guo-ren Green Alliance. The ceremony was designed to promote the dissemination of the concept of fair trade and fair trade market in China.

At the meeting, Beijing Global Village Fair Trade project consultant Li Yan gave a talk enititled "Organic agriculture and fair trade" in which she focuses on what is fair trade, what fair trade can bring us, and the status quo of domestic fair trade development, to give participants a basic understanding of fair trade.

Subsequently, the assistant director of Global Village of Beijing Wang Yiqing read the "Fair Trade Association Declaration" with other union representatives to launch a joint inauguration. "Fair Trade Union Declaration," rough translation as follows:

The Fair Trade Alliance recognizes fair trade organizations and enterprises consisting of open service organizations. Its members include producers, public organizations and social enterprises, fair trade products, operators, and institutional consumers.

Purpose:

Promote the dissemination of the concept of fair trade and fair trade markets; discover excellent fair trade products, advocate responsible consumption; encourage ecological diversity and cultural diversity and their value towards sustainability; combat poverty and achieve sustainable improvement of livelihoods of vulnerable communities; lead producers, operators, consumers, public self-discipline and constant growth.

Duties:

• First, build a link between producers, dealers and consumers to bridge between the establishment of a nationwide marketing network of fair trade;
  
• Second, to help disadvantaged producers to promote their quality assured by the members of the Union security provision of public goods brand fair trade products;
  
• Third, promote economic development and the producers of the collective capacity to enhance and promote within the community to establish mechanisms for equitable and sustainable development;
  
• Fourth, the establishment of production, circulation of the fair trade reporting system, promote fair trade, transparency of process;
  
• Fifth, promote enterprise and consumer's heightened awareness of personal responsibility;
  
• Sixth, the establishment of fair trade in China's brand image;
  
• Seventh, the establishment of China fair trade certification system.

Those who identify themselves fair trade concept, in support of fair trade, development, and is willing to guarantee fair trade products brand, following the principle of self-discipline and hard work of the League is willing to welfare organizations, social enterprises, commercial enterprises, may apply to join the Fair Trade Alliance;

Those who identify themselves fair trade concept, in support of fair trade, development, and is willing to accept fair trade products, information, and promised to give priority to options under the same conditions of fair trade products as consumers, can apply to join the Fair Trade Alliance.

The Alliance is a public interest organizations, social enterprises, co-sponsored enterprises set up by the Fair Trade Alliance, which created a new fair trade model, for the majority of producers have brought new hope.
