One Tribe Creative T-shirt Designs

One Tribe Creative has designed special environmentally low-impact t-shirts for GVB, available for tax-deductible purchase on their website

A word from their designer on the special T-shirts:

It is probably really difficult to see the detail of the design on the website, so I wanted to share the highlights for each concept — for instance, the chinese characters that are woven into the designs are probably not visible on the website.  Our creative team, including our graphic designer from China that designed these concepts, really put a lot of thought into the concepts to ensure the design conveys the Global Village of Beijing’s environmental mission.

Women’s T-shirt Design Concept with plum tree – the plum tree served as the design inspiration:

By incorporating environmentally conscious words in Chinese Characters into the plum tree image, this brings in the many important aspects of everyday life in urban and rural environments.  The words in Chinese on the plum tree T-shirt are:  vegetation, animals, environment, pure, saving, nature, forever, respect, progress, protect, responsibilities, community, sustainable, reproduction, thriving, and organic. This promotes public awareness of environmental issues and encourages ‘green living’. The plum tree stands for fighting a wasteful lifestyle and promotes sustainable lifestyles, thus serving as our inspiration for this design concept.

Men’s T-shirt with dragon – the dragon served as the design inspiration:

Chinese dragons are legendary creatures in Chinese mythology. Chinese dragons traditionally symbolize potent and auspicious powers, particularly control over water, rainfall, and floods. In Chinese culture today, it is mostly used for decorative purposes, such as dragon kites, dragon boats, and dragon lanterns. It is generally used as the symbol of Chinese culture. The dragon is also a symbol of power, strength, and good luck. Many Chinese people are proud of being "Descendants of the Dragon." In Chinese daily language, excellent and outstanding people are compared to the dragon. A number of Chinese proverbs and idioms feature references to the dragon, for example: "Hoping one's son will become a dragon" means to be “as successful and powerful as a dragon.”

The dragon served as the design inspiration and by using Chinese hieroglyphic writings with important environment elements, such as moon, sun, fish, human being, the design delivers a message that we are all part of nature and we can coexist in balance and harmony together. The overarching message includes “united, we are stronger and determined to achieve our green mission.
